Reading...it's all I do

I guess I can be thankful I'm still well on track with at least one of my 2011 Goals - reading!

2011 Reading Challenge

2011 Reading Challenge
Trisha has read 20 books toward her goal of 25 books.

Just finished reading Cat Dreamer by Isobelle Carmody, and now I'm onto another relatively short book, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. I'm at page 32 and loving it so far. I had to choose short books as when June starts it's time for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass. Also June is when BuNoWriMo starts. It has a Facebook group page now - check it out!

I'm thinking that it'll be fun to give over with revisions for a time and indulge in a major writing fest instead. It's been too long since I just wrote and wrote with no care about what was to come later (revisions, argh!). Maybe after I've done BuNoWriMo, I'll be more invigorated and refreshed when thinking about revisions.

I have done a bit more on NAUSICAA revisions, but not much. I'm also wanting to get back to SUNDOWN, but I think I need to give it more of a rest. I have chapters 1-16 up on ElitistCritiques, and if I can get more feedback on those then I'll be able to go from there. I haven't done the print-out yet of course, since I haven't finished that "latest round of revisions" I mention in my Goals list.

How are you guys going with your goals right now??

  1. I've gotten a few more ideas for Royally Burned which excites me, but nothing real big. I realized I have to figure out one more thing for the characters but I don't know how well that's going to go.

  2. Steinbeck's words just JUMP off the page, don't they. I love his stories.

I'm working on my WIP and revising some picture books too. Plus, querying. Which I don't like. It hurts my neck looking at all those agents. THERE'S GOTTA BE A BETTER WAY! GAH!

Congrads with being on track with your reading goals, Trisha. :-)

  3. @Brooke - awesome, glad to hear you're inspired! :D Good luck with the one more thing you need to figure out. Are you writing this during June?

@Robyn - they're great! Love his characters and their dialogue :) Good luck with all your querying, it'd be good if we could have some volunteers who could do the looking up of info for us. LOL.

  4. Fantastic pic - good luck with your projects. I'm lucky when I can even find the project I'm in the middle of. I know I've lost more than one story completely.

The short story I'm working on now, I wish I would lose it, it's rapidly turning into a disaster.

  5. Ooh, I've always wanted to read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland! My parents have this great old copy but I have such a large TBR pile that I never get around to it.
My main goal is to have my WIP,PERISH, finished by WriteOnCon. (a completed first draft at least) I have my work cut out for me! Lol!

  6. @Rusty - thanks, and I will need that luck. hehe. I've written a few disastrous short stories this year as part of Chrysalis. Some weeks I'm just not that inspired and have to force it ;)

@Amanda - yeah, it's one of those books I probably would have taken ages to read if not for this Classics Book Club thing and someone else making the choice for me. :D

  7. You're doing great! Love that sketch, too. :)

Me? Goals? I'm imitating a whirling dervish right now ~ can't slow down long enough to settle on goals. Ha!

  8. I adore Steinbeck! He is one of my favorites!

I'm ahead on my reading goals and behind on my writing goals. I'm hoping to get caught up and ahead on my writing. I think I need the intensity of a WriMo. I'll check out the fb page you mentioned.

  9. 20/25? That is fabulous. I really should count up how many books I've read this year too.
I've not heard of Cat Dreamer before, though I have read and enjoyed Of Mice and Men :O)

  10. A word fest sounds fabulous. I'm pootling away quite happily with my short stories and poems. I'm thinking about a novel (again), I'm going on holiday tomorrow. I've got three Dean Koontz novels and a notepad, and I'm going to be looking at plotting and tension and all kinds of novelly things.

  12. I'm thinking a WriMo would be super for me as well; I'm going to be super-super busy come November, so I had been pondering doing NaNoWriMo early this year. Lo and behold, June works out perfectly. :P

  13. I'm ahead on my reading goals. I have the goal of reading 40 books this year and I think I'm at 22 or something. I have also joined many different reading challenges and I'm doing good with those as well. I'm on target with my writing/editing goals.

Hope you have a great time in June with BuNoWriMo.

  14. You're doing great on the reading! I think I've only read about 6 books (not including those for beta reading--maybe double it if I count books read for feedback or editing, though most of those are MINE... And I SO hear you on giving in to the writing. I am READY!

  20. Sounds like you're doing pretty well with those goals, Trisha. Mine are stalled at the moment, but I just signed up for National Young Writers Month so I'm hoping to get some progress made.

PS. I gave you a bloggy award. You can grab it here. :)

  21. Those are awesome books... Of Mice and Men and Alice in Wonderland.
Let's see... I've just finished my latest novel and waiting for feedback so I can revise accordingly. And I think I'm just gonna coast thru the summer and read everything I can. Just read Hunger Games and excited to continue the series. :)

  23. Right now I'm goalless and will remain so until the end of the month. Then the edits begin. ^_^

  24. I plan to knock out ten chapters of writing this weekend! (Don't worry, they're short chapters.)

  25. My goals are a little slow going. I'd love to do the june writing month but I'm deep in revisions and the end is nowhere in sight. I think I'll do a September writing month though...or just wait until November. I love writing first drafts :)

  26. I've got a major writing goal during June--so I'm holding off for the rest of the month so I can put my energy into that. :P

I've never read anything by Steinbeck; I've noticed him around, though.

  27. @Michelle - I was NEVER in that habit... lol. I could totally do it if I stuck only to short books though. :P

    @Sari - thanks for the award! :)

@L Diane - WOAH, I was going to say... hehe. My chapters tend to be really long, but I'm going to keep short chapters in mind with my upcoming projects. I may find it more liberating to write shorter chapters...

@Michelle M. - um ,yeah. I was deep in revisions too, till I burned out & set them all aside. hehe

@Eagle - awesome! Good luck with your goal. I haven't read Steinbeck either before now, but I really like his work - it's a short/easy read so far, and with great characters.
