During April a bunch of bloggers are participating in the A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013. My theme this year is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. Today's letter is "X", and it was a really easy choice this time, because I only had one song to choose from! ;)
Olivia Newton-John is best known for her role as Sandy in Grease, and I'm pretty sure I don't have to tell you guys much more about her. If you say you don't know her, I'll be extremely surprised. I will say that I first saw the movie Xanadu when I was visting an American friend of mine in Atlanta - she's a mad fan of that movie. It was a fun experience, and one I won't soon forget. haha. Also, this live video performance from Countdown is from back in 1980, the awesome year in which I was born. Happy birth(year) to me! :)
Honourable mentions:
Seriously, I've got nothing. Except my own song. And because that's all I have, I'll just link you guys to a free stream/download and be done with it. ;)
- Xerxes by Woody's A Girl
She was certainly an icon of the era. Congratulations on solving X Day!
ReplyDeleteI did like that song. It has been a long time since last I heard it. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to love ONJ.
ReplyDeleteMy sister did a show in school and the theme song was Let's Get Physical--(although I think it was more sports oriented than anything else.)
Fun!

My husband and I were listening to the radio yesterday, and a song from Grease came on. ONJ and JT were incredible together. :-) But I think she'd be incredible doing a duet with anyone. And yes, she's great alone. And I think she's a good role model.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice and good "X" post. :-)
Still haven't seen Xanadu but love Grease.
ReplyDeleteOnly watched part of Xanadu. Have to admit that I wasn't crazy about it, but I did and still do like her. :)
ReplyDeleteI have still never seen Grease....and never will since it's much more fun to be the only person on the planet who was of age in the late seventies to not have seen it.
ReplyDeleteBut Olivia Newton-John was an early celebrity crush of mine-what young teenage boy could resist Have You Never Been Mellow.
I missed Xanadu when it came out-by then I was too cool for Olivia, but when the soundtrack (finally) was released on CD I picked it up for the Electric Light Orchestra contributions.
Since by the late nineties I was no longer too cool to listen to a a good pop soundtrack effort, that's my assessment of this one.
I, too, had a friend who was insane for this film (he paid a fortune for the Japanese import CD)-I never saw the film but the soundtrack is worth a spin for sure!
ONJ has a lovely voice that's for sure! Been a long time since I've hear it or her sing...
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Xanadu but it seems like it is a great guilty pleasure. I need to watch it sometime.
ReplyDeleteGreat soundtrack, awful movie. (I probably would have enjoyed the movie a lot more if I saw it at the time it came out, but alas, I only had the soundtrack. Still can sing most of it.)
ReplyDeleteHah. I only have the Sarah Blasko cover!
ReplyDeleteI DO have another X song, by The Porkers. :D
Olivia, I've always liked her music! Happy birthday year to you!!!
ReplyDeleteX day is always a challenge, isn't it? This one was super cool--I do remember the song, although I don't think I ever saw the movie complete (don't tell your Atlanta friend, ok?). Nice blast from the past :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to my blog earlier this month, and so sorry it took me so long to come visit you--I've been on vacation and for that reason dropped out of A2Z *sigh*. Ah well, there's always next year :D
I'll certainly be back for more--love your blog :)
Olivia Newton-John is good. But your song was really beautiful! Keep on singin'! Happy A-to-Z 2013! ~Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI saw Xanadu but can't remember anything about it other than it wasn't memorable. Still, I'm very impressed you were able to come up with and "X".
ReplyDeleteAnd Xerxes was beautiful. Well done you!
VR Barkowski
I never saw the movie, but I do like the song. I tried to hear your song, but I had trouble playing it. Sorry I missed it, and I'll try again later.
ReplyDeleteJulie
There could only be one choice for today!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful voice. It was really nice to hear your song.
Hooray for children of the eighties!
ReplyDeleteYou have a gorgeous voice! Thanks for sharing your song.
ReplyDelete1980? *sigh* When did I get so old? :)
I was such a fan of Olivia Newton John growing up! I saw Grease, and I also saw Xanadu. But I have to say, the song I REALLY loved from that movie was the 40s? tune she sang with Gene Kelly, "Whenever You're Away From Me." LOVE the big band sound there.
ReplyDeleteI always think of the Rush song when I hear Xanadu. Or Coleridge...
