During April a bunch of bloggers are participating in the A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013. My theme for 2013 is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. Today we're up to "M" and I have chosen the following songs:
There aren't any "official" vid clips for the two songs I've chosen today, and the first one is not the greatest audio quality, but you get the gist! I don't know Deborah Conway that well, except her 1991 hit "It's Only the Beginning", but I love "Madame Butterfly". I've been told she has been unfairly overlooked with her later albums so I intend to investigate those further as well. As for Frenzal Rhomb, well "the Frenzals" as they're more affectionately known are just a crack-up with songs like "My Girlfriend's a Man", "Mum Changed the Locks" and my personal favourite, "Go Frenzal Go" (about a racehorse called Frenzal who always comes in last but still gives it a go ;) ).
Honourable mentions:
- Midnight Sunshine by Tumbleweed
- Measuring Tape by Love Outside Andromeda
- Marseilles by the Angels
- More Than You Are by Grinspoon
- Magic by Olivia Newton-John
- Man of Colours by Icehouse
- My Enemy by Cog
- Maroondah Reservoir by Augie March
- Maverick by Layla (one of Australia's top female MCs)
- May by Big Heavy Stuff
- Mind's Eye by Wolfmother
- Miss You Love by Silverchair
Love the titles of the songs on the second video clip!
ReplyDeleteMadame Butterfly--I like that one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these.

You come up with the best songs! I haven't heard of most of these. I need to expand my horizons. :)
ReplyDeleteLots of great songs here, and a few that I've never heard. Cool!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love the Frenzals' songs, how funny. :D
ReplyDeleteThe Frenzals were definitely unique and funny!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a long list of M songs. The Frenzal's titles are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteApparently I am wholly lacking in my music appreciation skills. I only recognized one -- Midnight sunshine. But now I am listening to them one by one, so thanks for turning me on to some great tunes!
ReplyDeleteIt's quite impressive that you recognise "Midnight Sunshine" - that band isn't all that well known :)
Deletethose are funny titles for songs! I can just imagine how much fun they are to listen too:)

The Frenzals sound like a hoot!
ReplyDeleteThe second was a blast, with quite the colorful cast.
ReplyDeleteAudio quality shmaudio quality. At least you have it! :D
ReplyDeleteSometimes unofficial clips are the best. I see you included Icehouse. Love Wolfmother too.
ReplyDeleteI like Deborah Conway. Anyone who can get up in front of a huge crowd with just her guitar and no back up band or singer has... nipples!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Frenzal one!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Madame Butterfly Is in Trouble, hurt sound quality!
ReplyDeleteFrenzal sounds like the toad in the toad and hare story.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, Trisha! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've heard Madame Butterfly.
ReplyDeleteThe other one isn't quite my thing though.
Can't argue Deborah Conway and Frenzal!
ReplyDeleteGood to see Man of Colours get a mention.
