During April a bunch of bloggers are participating in the A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013. My theme for 2013 is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. Today's letter is "P" and I have selected two songs (as well as quite a looong list of honourable mentions!):
I saw John Farnham as a little kid, at the long-gone Perth Entertainment Centre. My little brother kept falling asleep - mum had to wake him up for his favourite songs. Anyway, "Farnsy" as we call him (we have Farnsy, Barnsy and more recently, Nollsy. hehe) is a total Aussie legend, but mention of him usually reminds me that people often confuse my surname with his. I even got asked once if I was related to him. "Yeah, he's my uncle," I said, but it's not true. Anyway, "Pressure Down" was one of his greatest hits, and I still love it today. As for Kylie Minogue? Well, I can't say I'm a big fan of her music, but this song is actually one I really, truly love. It's the best song she ever did that I've heard, and I find the video clip quite mesmerising as well!
Honourable mentions:
- Paper Aeroplane by Angus & Julia Stone
- Peaches & Cream by the John Butler Trio
- Photograph by Something For Kate
- Physical by Olivia Newton-John
- Pick You Up by Powderfinger
- Please Leave by Jebediah
- Pleasure and Pain by Divinyls
- Post-Enebriated Anxiety by Grinspoon
- Pyschoactive Summer by Def FX
- Pulse by Front End Loader
- Punch in the Face by Frenzal Rhomb
- Purple Sneakers by You Am I
- Pyramid by Wolfmother
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFarnham's been around for a long time! Your post inspired a Google search in which I uncovered, among other things, the statue of him in Melbourne - with the '80s hair!
ReplyDeleteThe KM video doesn't seem to want to play for us in the States. :(
Thanks for sharing the videos. Like someone else said that KM video won't play for us here in the US but I looked her up on Youtube. I like her too.

Kylie really experienced a career resurgence. I liked her "young" phase better (poppy rather than dance-ey)...
ReplyDeleteglad that i know one song here at least! Let's get physical, physical!

God! I haven't thought about Farnsy in years! Is he still around?
ReplyDeletePretty sure he's retired by now. But they always seem to retire and then make a comeback! ;) He's really getting on though!
DeleteWhell! I was listening along to John Farnham, when it just shut down and refused to play anymore. Then Kylie won't play here. She's not a fave anyway, so that's OK.
ReplyDeleteWell I new the first one, haven't heard it in years though.
ReplyDeleteTHAT brings back memories. The mullett hair cut and the old video--I was so much younger here.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the song Pressure Down before, but I like the video. It has that fun 80's vibe to it.

ReplyDeleteNever heard of pressure down before - Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteNice song choices.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny people confused your last names together. I would totally have fun with that.
ReplyDeleteHi Trisha .. Kyle's done an incredible job reinventing herself .. and set a light for others with cancer ... I don't know t'other chap .. one day perhaps! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteJack!
ReplyDeleteLoving your honour roll too.
I feel I need to mention Pollyanna's Pale Grey Eyes.
Sarah Blasko's Perfect Now is also a favourite.
Purple Sneakers would have won it for me though, one of my all time favourites!
