Day #3 is done!

Tiny picture for a tiny blog post! And may I just say that when technology fails me, I get MAD. But moving on from that nice blog entry I had already written and then lost...! Day 3 of NaNo is over and I've written 9,453 words. Once again I've fallen behind with my required word count. Last year I averaged 5k a day until the first weekend hit. I should have had 10k exactly by the end of tonight. But I'm not too worried. I'll catch up.

As for the story itself...? My female MC has run away with me, insisting on becoming more sarcastic and 'witty' than I had planned. Not sure she will get her way in the long run, 'cause she's meant to be more dreamy and spaced out than that. But I guess we'll see. Male MC is coming along nicely. Rude and obnoxious, but showing his courteous side now and then (though in such a rude and obnoxious way that nobody recognises it as courtesy). I have to play up his 'lady's man' angle a bit. But now I'm wondering if I do, after all. Sigh. Best laid plans and all that...

OMG. This blog post is NOT tiny anymore. But I can make it at least no more gargantuan by finishing here and bidding you all good night! Sweet dreams of NaNo victory to all of you who are participating! And sweet dreams of other things to the rest of you!

  1. 5000 a DAY? All the way through? Holy crap! That is darned impressive. I think I've only had about 3 5000 word days EVER. I am at about 6000--should get another 1000-1500 in before the day is over, as I know exactly what is coming next and I have not yet left work. I have several commitments tonight, but SHOULD have about 2 hours writing time.

Good luck with catching up, and GREAT JOB so far! (your character will take on what personality she WANTS--you know this, yes?)

  2. True story relating to the unpredictability of characters; for last year's NaNo, I wanted my female MC and my male MC to get married. Eventually. Then suddenly the MMC pops the question in chapter two before I could stop him, and next thing I know the FMC turns him down and it's sad faces all around. They never did get together. She died a heroic death via laser rifle. He's still single. Alas.

  3. I love how your NaNo Day 3 is just ended, and mine is still being procrastinated here in the states. You're Trisha (the equivalent to awesome)--it's almost guaranteed you'll catch up. And you just gotta love those stubborn witty characters, right? ;) Good luck!

  5. Thanks everyone! It's fun, but an interesting challenge trying intentionally for double the word count. Hehe. Sometimes it's probably better not to calculate what you need & just let the writing flow.

  6. I'm sitting at around 3500 total right now. Stupid novel. It won't do what I want it to. I'm still not done for the day though, I don't know if I'll hit 5k or not. I'm doubting at the moment. We'll see.

I might as well throw my outline out the window. I'd gone off track before I finished the first sentence.

  7. I'm doing the NaNoRevMo thing. I've cut 5K off my WIP and added 2K back. I think that's success?

  8. @Rusty - It's funny (in an exasperating way sometimes) how everything can change with the first sentence. I hope you find your rhythm & get some good progress happening!

@Julie - excellent!! Well done! I'm sure the 5k you cut was not needed and the new stuff WAS. I've been there lots of times. It is painful to see words added though, at least if you started with too many. Good luck!
