Happy New Year everyone!

It's nearing the end of my first day of 2014, and what have I got to show for it? Well, so far today I have:

  • eaten a big and delicious breakfast at a friend's place following NYE celebrations last night;
  • finished re-watching all the Harry Potter movies, and become suitably depressed as a result;
  • taken my cats for a walk - or rather, been taken for a walk by my cats; it's a thing with them (yes, my cats are weirdos);
  • eaten really bad take-out for dinner;
  • thought about the fact that after this week I'm back at work!

I'm sure I did other things, but I'm in a bit of a holiday haze right now so those other things are escaping my thoughts.

I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve. Probably the highlight for me was when the Bon Jovi DVD reached a live version of "Always" and we all started dancing around my friend's kitchen and singing to each other about how we will love each other, aaaaalways.

It's been an uncharacteristically cool Christmas and New Year's around here, even if our friends in the Eastern States are sweltering. I have to say it's a really special treat when temps only reach, say, 25 celsius at this time of year.

I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts!

Anyway, I guess I just wanted to put up a simple post without any pictures (because I have none at the ready to put up), just to say Happy New Year to all of you - and let's make 2014 a great one!

I think I'm going to go and set my yearly GoodReads goal, at least if the widget is available yet.

  1. You walk your cats? On a leash or do they just trot along with you?
    I think your first day sounds good. I'm just going to spend the day watching football and eating.
    Happy New Year!

    1. I've tried the leashes, and the boy was okay with it but not thrilled. The girl, however, lay down and refused to move. :P So now I just walk with them 'free style'. It's so weird but they really do want me to go with them, or they won't go. Nutters.

  2. Happy New Year. We're just getting ready for lunch here on the first day of the New Year. We had fun with family last night but as usual came home to welcome in the New Year.

  3. Happy New Year!! Sounds like you had a reasonably relaxing day although walking cats (or having them walk you) sounds little stressful :) I do hope it will be a good year and that we're all busy betting lots of our writerly stuff done!

  7. Seems like a good way to bring in the 2014 to me. Except for the super bad takeout dinner. I hope you have a super duper awesomesauce year. . . let's try to bring the word awesomesauce back. That's my resolution. ;)

  8. I think cat-catching would be the hardest thing about cat walking! Sounds like the cat in the Amelia Peabody mysteries! My movies were the Lord of the Rings plus THE HOBBIT. :-) Thanks for visiting my blog today.

  10. Yes, I can relate to thinking about being back to work. It's hard to shift back into focus. And I love that you walk your cats, too. My Benny walks on a leash =-) Check him out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3TmnjUtUqY. And I agree, let's make it a great year. Happy 2014, Trisha.

  11. I've never attempted walking my cat; I don't think he'd stand for it. :P Happy New Year!

  13. Happy New Year!

    My dad walks his cat, too. So weird and cute! LOL! I wish I had thought to train my kitty to do that, but now she is far too big for me to think of it. I'm terrified as it is, because I've got the forest right out my back door, that she'll get out one day and disappear.

    I guess Harry Potter's been on everyone's mind, because I was thinking about rereading the books. But Deathly Hallows is just so, AWFUL, it's been holding me back.

    It's freezing cold here. We're supposed to have lots of snow tomorrow. Yay!

  14. Happy New Year Trish. Sounds like a typical Aussie slouch over the hols dreading going back to the grindstone for another year. Eat lots, sleep lots and care for those cats!

    My sisters caught the Bon Jovi concert in Brisbane. I was already overseas. One lurked and got Kid Rock's autograph. Good going!

  18. I totally forgot to log all my books read for 2013. I was such a slug last year!
    I used to talk my cat for walks. He was a sheltered, pampered kitty who needed to be kept close for fear another animal would whip his furry butt.

  19. Happy New Year! I thought walking cats was an urban legend, like low calorie pizza, or bigfoot.

    And I was just thinking of a Harry Potter marathon the other day, but decided not to do it. We had one over the summer, so it'll be at least another 6 months before we have another one.

  22. My parents used to take their Siamese for a walk on the beach in Oregon. She would just lay there if she had a leash on, and they'd pull her across the sand. I had one cat that was cool with a leash, but he would also walk alongside us like a puppy. The others weren't interested in walks at all.

    Also, I'm reading the Harry Potter books with my son, and today I read the part where one of my favorite characters died. I hate that part. I got choked up and had to pause to drink some water.
