Okay, so I feel like I've really slacked off on my goals, even though I've written about 24,000 words already in June. 22k of those were for BuNoWriMo, but now that I'm done with that story I need to move onto something else. I've got other stories to choose from, but the problem is having too many. I could fill out the finished story here and there, but I think I need to just move onto something that I know I can churn out words for.
I'm counting my Chrysalis stories in my June wordcount, so those have added another 2k+ to the overall wordcount. I wrote this week's Chrysalis story last night, and kind of loved it. But it's another of those stories that feels like a beginning. I've written a fair few of those this year. I guess I could work on continuing any of them. But the problem is having too much choice!
Anyway...news on another goal of mine - reading. I'm nearly done with Cassandra Clare's City of Ashes, and then I'll move onto June's classic read, which is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass. Yep, way overdue with starting that one! But I'm nearly there. So this is my 23rd book, and Alice will be the 24th. Then just one more book and I've met my yearly reading goal. ;) I set the bar nice and low, to be sure I'd make it. Hehe.
As for the other goals...yeah, gotta start cracking that whip!
But how is everyone else going with their goals/projects???
My reading goal this years was to read 11 books published in 2011 (the BooKrushed Challenge). I'm not doing so well - I think I may have read four so far, and it's already June!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! You are kicking butt! WHOOOO!! My goal was to read the entire Potter series from start to finish. I am at the half blood prince! I think I'll make it. If I don't oh well, life's like that, eh?
ReplyDelete@Susan - hang in there!! Have you got books ready to read, or still have to buy the rest of those 11?
ReplyDelete@Tanya - thanks :) I like that goal! Have you read 'em before? I've read all of them twice!
My goals are more along the lines of WHO I am reading not how much I am reading. Right now I am reading modern authors (David Foster Wallace) but I might read a classic next. Perhaps Lawrence Durrell...
ReplyDeleteMy progress is a little slower than I would have hoped, but I'm getting there. Preparing two manuscripts for submission, which is a little time consuming.
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats on the word count, that's amazing! Great job on the reading goal as well!! I just finished Cassandra Clare myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing okay on my reading goal, need to crack the whip on the writing for sure. Have a great weekend!
thesis is due in september...but it's nearly there.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your word count for June is crazy/amazing! Congrats on all the writing :) I can totally relate to having too many ideas. I want to start another project while my current one rests for awhile and I've got about 5 things I could try. I wish I could have an agent look at the ideas and just say, "No, no, no, no, well, maybe try that one--it might be interesting. Ditch the rest." Oh well, that's what dice are for. Yes, that's right~I'm letting the dice choose my idea for me :)
ReplyDeleteGood job on your goals. I have reached part of mine. My goal was to finish two major revisions on my novel. I just finished the first one last night and I'll start on the second one next week :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you're doing great on your goals! That's not the first time you're reading Alice in Wonderland, is it? "The time has come the Walrus said..."
ReplyDeleteHey congrats on doing awesome on your goals! :D I only wish I could say the same... I've been very bad about not writing on my stories, or editing my stuff. My goals are to hopefully finish a story before NaNoWriMo, but I seriously need to get a typing away if I'm going to make it.
ReplyDelete@Danette - I like your reading goal! A few years back I made a point of reading some classics I should've read years before, i.e. Austen and "Jane Eyre", etc. ;)
ReplyDelete@Christine - oh yeah, very time consuming!! Good luck with your manuscripts!
@Julie - thanks, and you and me both!! :P Even though I've done okay if I look at it objectively.
@-E- - wow!! Good luck with your thesis. Is it honours, PhD, masters? I did an honours thesis back in '02 which was bad enough. Can't imagine tackling one of those huge projects though!
@Jess - thanks! :D And yeah, I guess it'd be convenient to have an agent's input. Then again I think going with one's gut on what idea is most inspiring is pretty important!! For me anyway. ;)
@Michelle - Well done on your first revision!! Good luck with the second, I kind of stalled most of the way through my 4th draft revision. :P
@Deniz - Thanks :) And yes, it is my first time!! See what I mean about not having read many classics? :P
@Griffinclaw - thank you! :) Good luck with your goals. I think everyone has a slump period. I know that for at least a couple of weeks there I had to do absolutely nothing related to my writing. Maybe just let yourself have a break!
Great job on your goals.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting there. I'm almost done my first draft and I'm very excited.
I hope to make my TBR pile smaller by the end of the year, but with new releases that's not going to happen.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks Christine! Good luck with yours too :) I love that feeling of finishing a draft at last! I had a draft that took me 10 years to finish. uh yeah, something wrong there. hehe
ReplyDeleteMy TBR list always seems to be growing too. That would be MY FAULT as i keep buying books... ;)
Awesome job on your goals! I'm didn't do so well last week, but I'm back in the saddle. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteKari Marie, I feel REALLY slack after the weekend I just had ;) All I can say for it is that I finished one book & started another. :P
