- With my goals this week, I've focused largely on revision, in order to try and catch up with NaNoEdMo. As a result, I've pulled really far ahead with my WIP revision, as you can see on my "task chart".
- My current WIP word count is 130,132, down from a ludicrous starting figure of about 146k. I'm finding it easy to cut out words (and by "words" I tend to mean "fluff I don't need in the least"), which this novel desperately needs. So I'm content with that.
- Many people would see this particular WIP revision as a bit of a time waster, since I'm not even sure I will ever try getting this thing published. But I'm not really doing it for that purpose; rather I'm doing it to tick an item off my very long creative to-do list.
- In just under a week's time, I leave for Paris and the U.K. and I'll be gone about a month. I will be updating during that time, mostly for the A-Z Challenge which is being pre-written and scheduled. But I'm not sure how much impromptu blog posting I'll get done.
- I haven't kept up very well with commenting on your blogs lately, but I fully intend to get better at that...starting tomorrow! Thank you for all your comments lately.
- I'm going to go and watch a bit of a movie after posting this. I will also enjoy an icy cold bottle of water (we're in the midst of a heat wave here at present, and I've never been a fan of those).
In other news, since it's Sunday (Session #9) I'm going to share with you the music I've listened to most in the past week. The songs on the list this week are:
- Foo Fighters, "Headwires"- one of my all-time favourite Foo songs and definitely a favourite from the There Is Nothing Left To Lose album.
- Boston, "More Than A Feeling" - timeless classic, what more need a girl say?
- Goo Goo Dolls, "Lazy Eye" - I'm not familiar with many Goo Goo Dolls songs, but I really love this one! I believe it's from a Batman soundtrack or something. I could find out more but I'm too lazy right now.
- The Cult, "Fire Woman" - yet more Cult, but I'm not sure one can ever have enough! This is a song that grew slowly on me. I now love it to bits.
- Roxy Music, "All I Want Is You" - this isn't a particular favourite out of all the songs I could've chosen by these guys, but oh well, it turned up!
- Zwan, "Glorious (Live)" - love this song, despite the fact that there's only a live version released so far!
I've been totally failing at NaNoEdMo so far, so good luck with that. And have fun on your trip!
ReplyDeleteWonderful you are working your way through your list. Congrats on all those words.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful month.
Thanks for visiting my take on The Mag and for your kind comments. Most fish are caught with a hook to the mouth and can be released. If not, they land on the dinner table, waste not, want not.
DeleteHave a fantastic week.
I definitely respect people who catch and eat their own animals. I could never do it, which means I am a hypocrite (I buy meat somebody else has already caught and killed for me). Sometimes I think that we should have to catch our own meat if we're going to eat it! In which case I'd be a vegetarian in a flash. :)
DeleteAll writing is good, in my estimation. Might not be something that will be published, but it is the refining tool that will get you published.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in your tavels.
= )
J.
Will you be taking tons of pictures in Paris and the UK?
ReplyDeleteYou betcha! I got a new (point and shoot) camera for the occasion.
DeleteLove Boston! :)
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing with my first MS. Cut it down, edited it up, even though I knew nothing would become of it. Good for you for following through.
But I do suggest that if something else calls you, go to that. You can always come back to this MS to finish it later. In my opinion we should always work on what speaks to us most.
Good luck and have SO MUCH FUN on your travels!
Good advice indeed - and generally if I'm trying to choose, I do go with the one I'm most interested in at the time. In this case I feel that I'm on a roll with the "slash 'n burn" time for this novel, so I may as well keep going. After I've done this round of revisions I'll probably leave the novel alone for a long time to come, though.
DeleteEnjoy your trip. I have a novel that I bring out every so often, that I doubt will ever be submitted- but it helps get me in the groove for other projects. I'm not sure I even want to finish it!
ReplyDeleteGreat song choices, by the way. Can't go wrong with Boston.
I like that this novel of yours is sort of a springboard into other projects. It's nice to have something like that to fall back on.
DeleteCutting 15K words is no easy task. That's a very impressive word count. Honestly, I wish I could be over rather than under, but that usually isn't the case.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy France and the UK! That sounds like an awesome trip.
Congrats on such good work!
ReplyDeleteI love the GooGoo Dolls, but never buy their stuff. Every time a song comes on, I'm all excited, but that's as far as I go. My boys want to download Slide and Iris, though, so it'll probably happen soon. :)
Enjoy your trip!
Trisha, you rock! I LOVE the Goo Goo Dolls. Have you heard Iris yet? It is my all-time favorite! And yay to your editing work! I know how it feels. In my MS I went from 120,000 to 85,000 words...crazy stuff! You're doing it and that's awesome! Keep it going!
ReplyDeleteI think I may have the song "Iris" in my collection, or at least I once did. I'm fairly certain I still do. Will have to check on that though.
DeleteI'd love to go to Paris, so jealous. And great song choices \;0
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely nothing wrong with writing without the intent to get it published. If you love doing what you're doing, then yay you!! It sounds like you are doing a great job of it too.
ReplyDeleteHi Trisha - I think it's a great writing exercise to work on something you are committed to completing even if you don't plan to have it published. You never know, you might even take something from this work and put it into another in the future.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun (and safe) trip to Paris and the UK!
Impressive. I like the sound of your list. I don't think the revision of your novel is a waste of time. It's experience and may spark something else.
ReplyDeleteWhich part of the UK are you visiting? I'm in South Devon.
Happy to share a map of our tour on my blog - will probably do that in today's post, whenever I post it. We are going from Salisbury to Plymouth, then up to Glastonbury. I do believe we'll be staying the night in Plymouth.
DeleteIf it helps any I'm editing my NaNoNovel thinking it might not be good enough to be published. I figure it'll help me learn more about the process... and hey, I might surprise myself!
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question on my blog, I think I just got overwhelmed by how much work my novel needs so I was avoiding it lol. That and I just didn't have the time or energy.
I very much know that feeling! haha. It can be rather overwhelming at times. Like with my NaNo 5th draft, having to face an entire rewrite. ;)
DeleteThanks for all your comments everyone! I am enjoying myself with the edits, even if I'm not exactly on fire with enthusiasm. I do get a great satisfaction out of honing something into a better format, though, so there is that!
ReplyDeleteParis and the UK???! Such fun! Are you going to add them to your travel series when you get back? Glad you're finding it possible to get rid of "fluff" you don't need :-)
ReplyDeleteI finally blogged the award you gave me...and gave you one! http://www.ruthiestickney.blogspot.com/2012/03/awards.html
ReplyDeleteHi-ya! I think I am all caught up on the posts you made since I stopped by last. I make many tupes, I mean Yypos, I mean typos-- too many to actually post on. (I made about 5 in that sentence) I really need to post something but I am enjoying the warm weather too much around here and haven't taken the time to think about what I want to post. Yikes! I need a refresher coarse on typing! Each sentence had typos I needed to fix! ;)
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds great and can't wait to hear more about it!
