Chore vs. passion

That's what I'm reading. Oh, and I'm still reading the Grimm fairytales, but I got it into my head that I should "mini-review" each story as I read it, and...so far I've reviewed the first one (because I had to go back and retro-review). And I've stopped reading more, 'cause I have so many to catch up on (and review). But anyway, see above for a book I'm not doing mini-reviews for 'cause I'm just reading the whole thing flat out. I have a huge TBR list and no time to waste, people!! This is business!

I'm kidding. It's not business. But sometimes I think that it really is. The things I do for fun (writing, reading, drawing, singing, playing guitar) become slightly more like my "real" job (as opposed to the one I spend most of my waking life at each week). They don't feel like chores, though. Not yet. Not most of the time. If they start to, I'll know I'm doing something wrong.

Do you still have the passion?

  1. Yep, I still have the passion to read, write, travel and lots of other things. Good idea to mini review. I always read a ton and review a few.

    Here's to passion!

  2. I have so much to read. I really want to support all my writing friend, and post reviews. But . . . so . . . much. It feels overwhelming at times. I've got to get organised, or perhaps spend less time on each task.

    Yikes!

  3. Oh yeah. My job is just a distraction from my real job of reading, writing, and taking pictures.

  4. Yes, every day, writing and taking pictures to inspire the words. I can't imagine my life without it.

  5. I looooove to read :) And write - and make jewelry - and lately to knit & crochet - and I'm going to learn tatting. Um. Yeah. Can I have more hours in the day please?

  6. I can't imagine life without a passion for something. It would be a sad existence.

  7. I can't imagine doing something without passion, especially writing. I don't know what I'd do if I did lose the passion.

  8. Sometimes I find myself feeling a bit overwhelmed, but most of the time, the passion is still there. :)

  9. I know the feeling of being overwhelmed, oh so very well. But with the passion still there we just can't stop! hehe

  10. My job is just an annoying distraction from writing, I swear. But it's that passion that gets me through another brain frying day so that I can do what I really want. BTW, I thought of you today--Peter Steele's bday. I'm drinking red wine in celebration.

  11. Jessica Bell's language is beautiful.

And yeah. I get bizarre ideas in my head - like reviewing each fairytale - and it starts out all fun, and then ends up not as fun cause it's WAY too much work!

  12. I do have many passions but often I ignore them in favor of my one true passion--writing! Great post. I enjoyed that novel.

  13. Yup, I've still got a strong passion for reading/writing, but I know what you mean. When you've got six books from your TBR pile sitting by your bed, it can almost feel like more of a "I've got to read through all these," rather than, "Oh boy! I get to read through all these!"

  14. That is such a fine line. So easy to let it start to FEEL like a JOB. But you're right to slay that dragon each time it rears its ugly head! Writing/reading/and all those other things should make you happy!

  15. RE: ROW80 - yes, it definitely works with your existing goals. The biggest difference for me is it gives me more of a community that I'm "accountable" to with my goals. Your goals can be whatever you want. Lots of people are even including their goals for the rest of their life as well as their writing! I love that I'm getting more blog hits from this too.

  16. Ha - I know what you mean though, they do expand and become the 'real' job :) There's an award for you over at mine if you fancy it

  18. Ooh, isn't STRING BRIDGE just beautifully written? My writing bows down in total respect to Jessica's writing!
And I've also decided recently to do "mini-reviews". They take a lot less time to write!
