December goals

I've really enjoyed the fact that I didn't have to write anything for NaNo yesterday. Nor do I have to write anything today...or this month. Well, for NaNo at least. I also don't have to write in this blog every day, or every other day. I do, however, still have some goals to achieve by the end of the year.

8. Write 52 short stories, one per week, for the Chrysalis Experiment
9. Write at least once a week in writing blog
12. Complete a preliminary read-through/edit of NAUSICAA (NaNo '10 novel) - as of March 6, opening chapter has been worked on/critiqued

Of those, writing in this blog is definitely the easiest. As for the others...I have fallen slightly behind in Chrysalis, partly because we are missing prompt #46, and partly because I haven't written this week's story. But I'm not too concerned about achieving this one. Writing 1k a week seems like absolute peanuts after what I just went through with NaNo. Even writing 1k a day would be comparative peanuts.

As for the read-through of NAUSICAA...I think I can do it. I don't need to actually do any serious editing. It's just a read-through and some note-taking on what will need editing later. That's how I'm choosing to interpret my own words up there, anyway. I have to say, though, that while 2011 is not yet over, I've been thinking about my to-do list for 2012 for a long while now. The Goals page is under construction. I shall unveil it probably on Dec 31st, or January 1, or somewhere around then.

But let's forget next year... What are your goals for December?

  1. I totally agree with you about not having to write. It is indeed wonderful.

I'm planning to catch up on Chrysalis stories next week. I have to write the other half of #45, #47, and #48. And what is up with #46? Where is Winter?

  2. Goals, I love making them. Not so good at achieving them. Looks like you are all over things in your life. Keep it up.

  3. I have a few projects I'm on the polishing stage with.
I really need to do something about Christmas . . .
My nano project turned into a BLAST, so I'm hoping to do some editing on that one as well.
SO - it looks like I'll be editing for the month of December, and making up for my lack of planning in the gift department :D

  4. Good topic. I'm not quite sure what I should do in December. I've just finished up my Novella (20K). The first I've gotten to a submittable standard. So I'm pretty pleased with myself. Maybe I should do another one.

  5. Ha ha, yeah, I know what you mean about not having to write. But it made me feel so... empty... yesterday. I had to babble on my blog to compensate.

My goal is to finish my NaNo in December-January. Then I intend to work on short stories/novellas.

  9. I agree! It's nice not to have to write to meet the NaNoWriMo word count . . .

My goal for December is to finish my NaNo novel.

  10. Yeah, I'm planning to edit my NaNo novel this month too, and catch up on Chrysalis. that, and watch all ten seasons of Smallville. (That one might carry over into the next year...:P )

  11. It is a relief not to HAVE to write for NaNo. I broke free and wrote a short story--just because I could ;) The rest of December, however, is for writing the rest of my NaNo first draft.

  13. My goals aren't that spectacular. The main one is to find enough paying writing work during the holiday season to keep a roof over my head! :)

  14. To get the creative brain engaged ... again.

  15. Congrats on being so close on all your goals! And on being done with NaNo. :)

My December goals are fairly small. Get ready for Christmas, blog every day, comment on blogs often, come up with a plan to make more hours in a day, do all critiquing I need to, write as much of book 2 while I still can, stay sane...

Okay, clearly I can't accomplish all of those. I may have to pick and choose. I'm trying to decide just how important that last one is.

  16. Good goals.

I haven't made any goals yet, but I would like to get more paid reviews even though I don't mind doing them for free. :)
