I will be writing new stuff in 2012, of course. There's NaNoWriMo and BuNoWriMo and another year of Chrysalis. I may use BuNo to work on finishing existing novels. I'm not even thinking about NaNo right now, but for Chrysalis my tentative plan is to try to write and record one new song per week. I've also got NaNo novels to finish (BuNo?). But there will also be NaNoEdMo, which will involve more editing.
So I'm thinking that 2012 will be more focused on revision for me than 2011 was. I've also got to work around 3.5 weeks overseas in March/April, but that's a story for another day.
What are your writing plans for 2012?
Revisions are a good goal. They take the longest for me. Just when I think I'm done, I start another round. And round and round we go!
ReplyDeleteI'm just not sure what my goals are going to be. For the last two years I've had short story submission goals, and they've worked really well. But this year I'm trying to think of some that will help me improve quality. Tricky. Very tricky.
ReplyDeleteIf I just finished the book I'm working on by the end of the year, I would be happy (I'm VERY slow - the first took me 2 and 1/2 years). But with the extra time I have from January, I should do it. I'm hoping to have revised and critiqued it, sent it out, and started another one. Then there's the short story idea mountain to tackle, but it might become more of a foothill once I've whittled out the wheat from the chaff.
ReplyDeleteI'm TOTALLY getting published in 2012. =) Yup. That's my one and only goal. Revisions have taken me away from the blogosphere the last two months, and IT'S FLIPPIN TIME! (Can you hear the enthusiasm--I had to borrow a cup from Kay. http://kayemevans.com)
ReplyDeleteTrisha, no song writing goals?
I'm revising one novel and writing another. I'll feel a little schizo, but hopefully I'll get it all done!

Good luck everyone with your goals, sounds like we are all quite ambitious!
ReplyDelete@Deborah - this is something I need to look at too. I've been focused on revisions in the 'grand' way, i.e. chopping entire chapters, changing plotlines, etc. But I haven't done any looking at stuff word for word. Maybe I'll get to do some of that in 2012 too.
I love that you have thought so hard about your goals. And what's BuNo? That's a new one for me. I'm excited for you!
ReplyDeleteThis year was my year of revision, so I'm hoping next year is the opposite for me, and full of writing! Good luck with your missions. You sure seem to have a lot to choose from!
ReplyDelete@Shannon, I also remember the feeling of having revised my head off & being desperate to get back to just writing! I have no doubt I'll be there again pretty quickly if I dedicate myself to a lot of revision!
ReplyDelete@Ali - BuNoWriMo, you may recognise the proper form of the name? I found it via Hart Johnson's blog last year.
What a good idea of looking at a Chrysalis story each week for revisions (or more likely in my case, completion!); I'm going to copy-cat you on it. So far, my 2012 goals are to finish my two novels and revise at least one in its entirety, get back on/stay on the weekly short story ride and develop my next novel. Those are the main ones now, anyway.
ReplyDeleteRevision FTW! My major project for 2012 is going to be THINKING OF YOU. I need to focus on its plot as well as its characters and setting. I also want to roughly plot out a continuation of the story through more books.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I will still be writing with NaNoWriMo and NaPoWriMo.
WOW! You did so well. I didn't make all my goals, but then, I tend to make larger than life goals. In 2012 I plan to transform into a space pirate and steal all the goals and beat them into submission. Also to write a lot and edit some and submit some stories. Cheers to a great 2012.
