A-Z '13 - Highway to Hell & Hang Around

UPDATE 10/4/13: I had to edit this post to add a second video, because really, H had to be a tie. I had totally forgotten somehow that I'd already picked out an "H" song, and it happens to be by one of my favourite Aus bands of all time, Tumbleweed. Plus, the video is so worth seeing - it features a giant chicken-zilla! So while I love "Highway to Hell", it can't be alone in the H-spotlight! ;)

Hang Around Tumbleweed

During April a bunch of bloggers are participating in the A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013. My theme for 2013 is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. Today we're up to the letter "H" and for my H song I've chosen:

Highway to Hell - AC/DC

AC/DC are the obvious choice for a whole lot of A to Z letters, but this is definitely one of my favourite tunes by them, even if I have only ever done a cover song version of "Thunderstruck". ;) "Highway to Hell" was great already, but nowadays it has the added bonus of reminding me of one of my favourite shows ever, Supernatural (hubba hubba). Anyway, there were a lot of great songs in my "H" selection, though it got whittled down by which had available videos):

A-Z '13 - Great Southern Land

During April a bunch of bloggers are participating in the A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013. My theme for 2013 is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. We had a break yesterday but today it's all on again. For my "G" song I've chosen:

Great Southern Land - Icehouse

I kinda had to, right? This is a pretty definitive "Aussie" song and it happens to be another that was featured on the Young Einstein soundtrack (like my letter "A" song). This song is definitely one of my faves of all time (I tend to like Icehouse's songs in general), and it's one I never fail to hear every Australia Day if I'm tuned into the radio down at the river ahead of the fireworks. :)

A-Z '13 - From the Sea

The A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013 is going on, and today we're up to "F". My theme for 2013 is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. For today's song I've chosen:

From the Sea - Eskimo Joe

Eskimo Joe are another band from my hometown who have done fairly well nation-wide. Their biggest hit to date has been "Black Fingernails, Red Wine", though I still kind of think of them as they were when their first single, "Sweater", was released back in the 90s. I'm not really a huge fan of this band, to be honest, but I think this song is great. And not just 'cause it's meant to be a homage to the "Freo Doctor".

A-Z '13 - Early Warning

The A-to-Z blogging challenge of 2013 is going on, and today we're on the letter E! My theme for 2013 is an A-to-Z list of classic Aussie tunes - either classic or just plain songs I like. For "E" I've chosen:

Early Warning - Baby Animals

Baby Animals are a band from my hometown who hit it rather big in the early 90s with their most famous song "One Word", which I recently learned Suzie deMarchi (lead singer & guitarist in the band) didn't even like, and didn't want on the album. She loves it now, she assured us in the crowd. :) Anyway, I have picked "Early Warning" because I think it just plain rocks. I hope you enjoy it!
