National Wormhole Day(s) Bloghop - the gig(s) I wish I'd seen

Yesterday and today, Laura Eno, Stephen Tremp and Luanne Smith have been/are hosting the National Wormhole Day Bloghop, which celebrates Albert Einstein's birthday (March 14th). The requirements of the hop are this:

...Take a moment to tell the world a few moments, and in 100 words more or less, what you would do if you had a two-way ticket to traverse a wormhole. This is my way of getting people excited about all the amazing stuff on the horizon that we as a race are on the cusp of discovering!

You know, I'm not all that fussed about time travel or "doing things over", or changing the course of history. So I think what I would most love to do would be to go back in time to one of the earliest Smashing Pumpkins concerts. And by earliest I mean pre-Gish (which was their debut album), when they were playing all those old groovy songs like "There it Goes", "My Eternity". I'd love to see a show where they played "Love (old)" and "Psychodelic", too, though I'm not sure they ever actually played those ones live. But really the show I'd love to see is the one where they played "Alabaster". Yes, please.

  2. Well now, that doesn't seem like too much to ask for, does it? My daughter would love to take that trip with you.

  3. I wouldn't mind taking that trip with you though I wouldn't mind hearing some of their later stuff :)

  4. That sounds like quite an uncomplicated wormhole jump Trisha!
Maybe you could get there via a holographic experience...?

  5. Okay, this is the coolest use of the wormhole! Thanks for the linkage. :)

  6. Now that WOULD be awesome. The idea of seeing a huge band in a tiny venue before they "made it" would be very cool, and Smashing Pumpkins is a great choice. I was just grooving to them yesterday.

  7. Going back and seeing a favorite band up close before they were famous would be incredible! I do love me some Smashing Pumpkins.

  8. That would be fun! I like that idea! My family and I saw one of our current favorite bands (Thousand Foot Krutch) back when they were younger and it was awesome, plus we had room to see, and time to meet them afterwards. Now, the crowds are huge at their concerts and the line to meet them is hours long.

  9. AWESOME Wormhole trip. I do love Smashing Pumpkins before the break up and re-kindle. I think my favorite is still Disarm though.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to get in, even back in time :)

  17. It's fascinating to see all the different things people would do if they could find a wormhole through time.

  21. Nice! I didn't know about this blogfest, but reading your entry made me momentarily wish I'd been at Duran Duran's first gigs...OTOH, then I'd be in my 50s instead of my 40s, so, maybe I'm ok with having missed them after all. :-D

  22. Nothing wrong with having some fun on the other side of the wormhole :)

  23. I hadn't even thought about concerts...but if I could, I'd go back to The Stone Pony and catch one of Bruce Springsteen's intimate shows there before he became so famous. Die hard Bruce fan here.
Thanks for your lovely and understanding comment about my wormhole trip. And nice to meet you!

  25. Oh, too funny. I love the smashing pumpkins, but think unless I also got to lose some years on ME, that my live concert appreciation is a lot lower than it used to be. Someplace like George Washington where I can sit on a hill outside and listen is great, but most venues are just crowded and loud, in my mind.

  28. Great idea, going back to see a favorite band. I saw the Pumpkins in a little club in Madison, Wisconsin. They were working on Siamese Dream there with Butch Vig. It was an unannounced gig, but a friend of mine worked at the bar, so we had the heads-up. One of the best music experiences of my life.
