Right, now moving on to the point of this post: "This year, I joined a library!" This may seem a strange statement coming from a librarian, but there you have it. I joined a public library out of the desperate need to stop buying so many books, and here's why I am so desperate:
A rather old bookshelf literally sags under the weight of (some of) my TBR list. |
A rather new bookshelf harbours books I read in 2012, 2011, and some books read years ago...and also at the top is my "TBRRN" shelf - i.e. "to be read right now" |
This third bookcase, also rather old (i.e. from the late 80s or early 90s) harbours yet more books I've read in the far distant past (or in some cases, re-read quite recently) |
So yes, I joined a library, not just 'cause I wanted a break from breaking the bank on Book Depository (which really I should refer to as my preccciouuuuussss 'cause it is rather addictive!), but also because I have no room for new books!
It's shameful, really, that it's taken me this long (though I did belong to the public library I worked at back in 2008 for a couple of months). But maybe it's the same as how this hairdresser chick I met recently sometimes doesn't wash her own hair for two weeks at a time
I can see why a library membership might be a good idea for you. Your poor, sagging bookshelves! :-)
ReplyDeleteI read the best home decorating tip ever recently: If all your books are aligned well, nothing else matters. I subscribe to that philosophy. I adore libraries, I practically live in the State Library of Q'ld, my favourite place to write/teach English. What could be better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the free download thumbs up. I love to read ebooks, but give me print any day!!! Just buy another bookshelf.
Your shelves look awfully familiar ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's why I went kindle hehehe.
It's a wonderful addiction! Joining the library is a smart move. The smell of a library is one of my favorite smells!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I would like to join a library too, if only there was one near the dragon cave. I inherited one, though. :D
ReplyDeleteMy shelves look like that AND I have 9 pages of unread books in the index of my e-reader. I'm hopeless. I joined the public library this year as well and it has saved me a ton of dough, most of which I spent when the library had their semi-annual sale...books for only $1.00!
ReplyDeleteTwice as nice!
I have a membership at my local public library, but I never go because someone has to, you know, take me. -.-
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up about Michael's book. I just got a Kindle and this will be a nice addition.
Also, just noticed your new background. I like it.
LOL, that is a lot of books! I definitely think joining a library was a good idea!
ReplyDeleteWOW, your TBR list must be long! I have had a membership at the library since I was a kid, unfortunatley I still buy too many books..
ReplyDeleteI will take any books you want to aleve your self of. Wow. Happy days getting your flashy library card!
ReplyDeleteWhile I do agree that you need a library membership.. come on now, you can never have too many books! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a ton (maybe literally?) of books! lol I honestly wish every writer would join a library, just as a show of solidarity. Most of our libraries here even 'lend' eBooks now, so think of it as a free version of the Amazon Kindle Lending Library. :-)
ReplyDeleteHope your '13 is fantastic and that you get a lot of use out of your new membership (looks like that won't be a problem at al :),

Yes - it is a wonderful addiction to have - except the whole brake the bank stuff. A couple of years ago I gave 10 totes of books to goodwill and I still have a TON in other totes and on the shelves.
ReplyDeleteI got your card - so beautiful- and Hex Hall in the mail. YaY!
I love libraries as I always end up with books I wouldn't have bought for myself! And thanks for the heads up on the free download - I just nabbed my copy :) PS your bookshelves look like heaven!

My wife is so thankful I now read mostly eBooks on my tablet. When we moved to our current house a few years ago, my books alone required ::mumble mumble:: trips to get them all. (Yeah, not saying how many. It's embarrassing.)
ReplyDeleteI tried getting a job at my public library several years ago. I didn't get the job, but I recall that the application was all about what I enjoyed reading. I just knew I would be a shoe-in for the job. I was so disappointed I didn't get it.
ReplyDeleteI've got a single TBR bookshelf - but my pile has spilled over into another one that I have downstairs. It is rather sad.
I love love love books! Just looking at your bookshelves makes me happy! :) I do not utilize the local library for my own reading, simply because I forget to return the books and then they charge me a bunch of money in late fees.
ReplyDeleteBut the hairdresser who doesn't wash her hair regularly? ICK! Gross! Blech. Two weeks without washing is DIRTY business.
I work at a storage facility and we get our own storage units which I think all of you can guess what my TBR book shelves look like. Im not yet certified as a horder so I better get to reading. Hey Trish, when did you start a blog?
ReplyDeleteI joined a Library for the first time since I was ten, last year. I did it so I could rent books on my Nook, but the wait list is SO LONG for all the books I want to read... I just can't wait ;) haha.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
