The A-Z challenge for 2012 is here, and I'm doing an A-Z list of books I haven't yet read but want to read (titles taken from my TBR shelf at GoodReads). For my book starting with C I've chosen...
A modern classic, "Carrie" introduced a distinctive new voice in American fiction -- Stephen King. The story of misunderstood high school girl Carrie White, her extraordinary telekinetic powers, and her violent rampage of revenge, remains one of the most barrier-breaking and shocking novels of all time.
Make a date with terror and live the nightmare that is..."Carrie"
Why do I want to read it? Suuuuch a classic, and I haven't read much King. But I've always intended to!
CARRIE is a great Stephen King read and definitely a classic as far as horror novels go.
ReplyDeleteI should really read some Stephen King.
ReplyDeleteI've read none! *gasp*
Maybe this will be my first... :)
I've read a handful of King novels, but not this one. This was his first published novel, wasn't it? It seems like his wife pulled out the pages from the trash and made him continue the story.
ReplyDeleteOh, I might get stoned for writing this--but I saw the movie. lol... I was still in high school and it was pretty dramatic--as you can imagine considering the storyline of the book.
ReplyDeleteI am not a huge fan of King's writing "voice". However, away from fiction--I loved "On Writing". I think he was candid and generous throughout that book.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :-)
We read 'Carrie' back, way back, when Stephen King was a young man, and we were young parents. Who knew he was such a genius? Scary genius.
ReplyDeleteLove Stephen King. And Rusty is right, this was a novel his wife pulled from the trash. Plus it was a great movie.
ReplyDeleteI've not read the book, but the movie scared me. I was young at the time I saw it, but the blood was gross!
ReplyDeleteI cannot read or watch anything Stephen King. I don't like horror much and he's really gory along with horror-filled.
ReplyDeleteYou're braver than I am! I can't even watch horror movies, let alone read horror books.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one. I hope you enjoy it
ReplyDeleteThat is truly a classic. Can't believe that apparently King threw the draft away, and only picked it up again when his wife convinced him!

Carrie is definitely one of my favorite Stephen King novels - great pick! :)
ReplyDeleteAs always, the book was better than the movie! :) What an awesome theme for the challenge!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this one yet, either, but it's on my list--especially since I'm such a King fan. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were doing the A - Z Challenge! (Just saw you on the list.)
ReplyDeleteCarrie is a Classic. (The movie... er, stick with the book.) ;)
Are you back from your UK+ trip?
I haven't gotten around to reading any Stephen King, but I really want to read some and this is at the top of the list.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to read his writing cause it's so dang scary! But his book On Writing was awesome :) Love his sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteHello Trisha,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! I will definitely be back to see what you dream up for the other letters, and to read more of your lovely writing. I am following now.
I am doing the A to Z Challenge as well. Take a peek at my blog too if you get a chance! I write humor, or at least I pretend to.
Best,

My sister loved Stephen King - I could only get so interested. He is a great writer, but the horror is so graphic, it made me sick to my stomach. I was pleasantly surprised when I read On Writing how terribly normal he sounded!
ReplyDeleteI read this one, and saw the movie. Freaky stuff. :) It and Misery are my favorite Stephen King books, though.
ReplyDeleteI've only read a couple of King books so far, (and the DARK TOWER series) so I definitely plan on reading more! I've been a Dean Koontz fan since high school so I know I'll enjoy King's stuff!
ReplyDeleteI read this a number of years ago, as well as PET SEMATARY and THE SHINING. Scared my freaking young teenage pants off!
ReplyDeleteI don't do horror anymore!
I've only read four Stephen King books and this was one of them. I really, really want to read more when I have the time. I also want to see some of his movie adaptions, especially The Shining.
ReplyDeleteMy librarian said she used to keep her Stephen King novels under her parent's bible in their room because she was afraid things would crawl out of them. XD
I've never read Carrie, but I remember the movie. It was a tragically horrific story.
