I've only read the one book this month, so I guess my review will have to be of that one - Mistborn book #1, by Brandon Sanderson. This is my first Sanderson read, if you don't count the Wheel of Time books he helped to complete (which I sort of don't...).
I enjoyed the read, but it was very slow going. A lot of the time I would read a few paragraphs and then put the book down. Whereas at other times, the story would suddenly get quite suspenseful and I would be eager to read on and find out what happened next, e.g. when Vin realises that Elend is in mortal danger and rushes off to save him.
I think the world Sanderson has built so far is fascinating, and I'm oh so curious to read on and find out where he's going to take the story in book 2 - because the major goal has already been achieved. So I guess there must be new huge challenges in store for Vin and her friends!
Gee, it's been a while since my last "goals confession". It was actually back on November 28th that I last participated in this bloghop. At that point, I was still in the midst of a rather slack NaNoWriMo, nearly at the end of my novel. But at least I had well and truly achieved my reading goal for the year.
This year so far, I've done some editing on my novel SUNDOWN III, but have been really slow at reading. It took me around 1.5 months to read one book, which is pretty unusual, even for slow-reading me. And now it's nearly March!! This year is flying, but then, they all seem to do that a bit these days.
My goals for the next month are 1) to do more editing, as 'life' has been getting in the way of that a bit in recent weeks. And 2) to read a bit more quickly.
I hope you are all reading great books, and making great strides towards achieving your goals!
I've not heard of this book, so thanks for the review! It sounds like it is worth reading, even if it drags.
ReplyDeleteI generally only get to read one full book a month, so don't feel bad about only getting one out of the way. I've never read Brandon Sanderson, but people keep telling me I should. I'll have to give him a try some day.
ReplyDeleteMy son has read all the Wheel of Time books. I started to listen to them but I find keeping track of everyone you need to keep reading them.
ReplyDeleteSo I don't know if I could tackle another series.
Your monthly goal planning sounds wonderful idea,
cheers, parsnip
You're up for book 2 of the series. To me, that's always the sign of a good read.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with next month's goals!
I'm a slow reader too and I have so many books I want to read. Good luck with your edits!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I'm also a slow reader. Although the past couple months I've burned through several books.
ReplyDeleteRead a few books from the Wheel of Time series, but they were slow and there was no ending in sight, so I gave up.
I find sometimes when I'm busy writing, I don't accomplish quite as much reading. Or I'm reading solely in the genre that I'm writing (to avoid interfering with my writing mood--even though I'm not sure that actually happens) so my reading choices aren't all that interesting or diverse.
ReplyDeleteI've found myself reading far more than usual in the last few months, even grabbing my book during every commercial break on the TV! But then, I think I'm just using it as an excuse to avoid the editing I'm meant to be doing. Good luck with your goals in March!

Some is better than none which is where I've been with any of my own writing. You're doing okay. I've very slow at reading. Currently I'm on my second book of the year and should have it wrapped up this coming week. Then on to another....
ReplyDeleteWhen you figure about reading more quickly let me know.

Good luck with your goals! My reading has been slowing down because of life happening. Sometimes I just want to hide under a blanket with a few new books and ignore life totally! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's normal that you don't read much if Mistborn is so slow going. I don't have the patience anymore to keep on reading books like that.
