I actually EDITED something!

Mind is officially blown. I did some editing last night.

I decided to just go ahead and edit one of my novels I've been wanting to edit for ages now (SUNDOWN III I guess I can call it, since the previous revision resulted in SUNDOWN II). I edited chapters 1 & 2 ages ago and was excited about where it was going, but it's taken me this long to get back to it, because I was stuck on my other not-yet-finished editing project. ;)

So yeah, last night I edited some stuff. And I already know that one section I edited should probably be deleted altogether. The book currently has two points of view, but I am considering removing the male point of view entirely.

The book also contains much passive aggressive martyrdom, which I was sure I got away from in a much earlier revision. But it clearly crept back in. So I have to work on getting rid of that, once again.

It felt good to actually edit something. I'll see how I go tonight when I continue.

  1. Good for you, Trisha! It always amazes me how hard authors work on editing and revising to get their manuscripts into final form!

    1. Yes, it can be a very hard slog, and you can do it many times over with some projects. But it's very satisfying. :)

  2. Congratulations. Once you get started, it's much easier to keep at it too. Good luck.

    1. Thanks Vanessa. Just have to make sure I make the time. Even just an hour each night should be easily doable. I just get sucked into other things like my kitty rescue and so on.

  3. Maybe having some distance from this project will make the revisions go easier (because you can actually SEE the problems within your story).

Do you save the old versions of your novel? If so, you can hack away. If it doesn't work, go back to the previous version and begin again.

    1. Oh yes, I definitely keep old versions. I'm far too paranoid and 'hoardy' to do anything else. haha.

  4. I enjoy those first edits, it's like visiting a good friend you're happy to see, It's on the twelfth edit that I wish that friend would just pack up and leave and never come back!

  6. Congratulations! I'm still dithering around with my wip, but at least I can claim I've been writing in my head because I now know a couple of scenes I want to add as I go.

    1. That is a great start! It's very good when you have had ideas churning around for ages and then you finally get to start writing - usually the words flow very well!

  8. Here's hoping you've continued with editing. It can be slow going when there is a lot that needs changing.

    1. Thanks, J.L. :) I have continued ... a little. But need to get back into it after a slack few days.
