Next year's goals - a new "Chrysalis" challenge

Floral lady.
Although this year is definitely not over yet, I'm already starting to look to next year's creative goals. This is probably very foolish of me since I'm still quite behind with a lot of this year's goals. But for some odd reason I'm not panicking there yet. Instead, I'm looking forward to the usual fresh start a new year gives us. I've seen other bloggers talk about this, specifically Brooke R. Busse (who is hosting a cool book giveaway, by the way - go check it out!).

Sapphos.
Anyway...one of the things I intend to do next year, perhaps for another "Chrysalis"-style challenge, is create a new piece of art each week. Fine art is the major area of my creative life that has suffered, basically ever since I finished high school. Doing the university entrance level Art class in school was like doing three subjects in one - it was that much work. It burned me out well and truly and I've never really recovered. Don't get me wrong, though, I've created new art since then. Just not a lot of it.

Rock star dudes.
Next year, I want that to change. So I'll be attempting to create one new piece of art each week. It can be any kind of art, though the likelihood of it being sculpture is low because of all the materials required for that. I do tend to work in all sorts of media, sort of like how I tend to write in all sorts of genres. So there's very few limits on what I might create. I'm looking forward to it. :)

  1. I am so jealous of anyone who can draw. I can do a mean stick figure, but that's about it! Can't wait to see your creations. :)

  2. Beautiful! I like the idea of working on an art form that's outside of writing, once a week. I was thinking of doing that with scrapbooking. If I could draw as well as you do, I'd do that instead.

    1. Great idea! I am one of those people who doesn't have the scrapbooking 'gene'. I just can't do it like other people can. I have a friend who does amazingly beautiful crafting stuff. I have a book she made for me that I don't use 'cause it's too pretty to pollute. ;)

  3. Awesome! Trisha, you HAVE to do this, if only so I can live through your exploits. :-D I really look for excuses to paint and draw, but can rarely do it because I work on my writing so much. Budgeting the time and setting goals is the ticket.

Love your art, and truly hope we get to see more of it soon.

  6. Oh, shiny! Good luck with your goals next year; I haven't even given much thought to next year yet. Maybe after NaNoWriMo '12. :P

  7. I'm always amazed at artists. I can't imagine being able to create visual life on paper. Good luck with your goals!

  8. What a good way to challenge yourself. It's important to improve all our talents. I can't draw at all. Well, maybe stick figures. :)

  11. I am not visually artistic at all. I'm so bad, I can hardly even play Pictionary! I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your creations next year! :-)

  12. I think it's easy to burn out with art. It requires so much intensity at times--like writing. I haven't done art in many years since I took up writing seriously, and I miss it.
I think having creative goals is awesome. Good luck! :D

  13. This sounds like a lot of fun. I too enjoy art, and I've let my passion for it slide as I've gotten into writing. The thing is though, I don't know if I could do one a week. I tend to take a while putting in details.

    1. Funny you should say that Michael, because I'm thinking to myself, "This time you have permission to take a whole week to finish a picture." haha. Usually I start and finish them in one sitting. ;)

  14. What a fantastic way to feed your creative side! I once thought I might have an art career, but that's evaporated over time. I do need to be creative, though.

  15. Such pretty artwork! And I think it's never too early to consider next year's goals. :)

(By the way, for my print book to get on Book Depository, then I have to be in CreateSpace's extended distribution. In order to do that, I would have to raise the book's price or I'll have to pay $0.07 every time someone buys a copy. It is something I'm considering after the holidays, so it will hopefully eventually be on Book Depository.)

    1. Cherie, I didn't realise that about BD. Thing about other sites, especially Amazon, for us, is that the postage is usually $8.00 or more, so whatever the price of the book, add another $8.00 on top of it. ;) I just checked with CS and it's the same there, almost $8.00 for shipping. So even if you doubled the price for BD, I'd still be paying the same :D However, I know that changes the cost for everyone else and not everything is about me. ;)

I'll put this comment on your blog too :D

    1. Thanks Nas ;) I tend to be pretty slack at updating with latest photos, etc., but I will endeavour to display my artwork each week as I get it completed. I can already envision getting very far behind with that. ;)
