We're all just recycling

I'm weird, and I love it!
Do you ever get the impression that you can't possibly come up with anything new to talk about on your blog, 'cause it's all been said before? I do, all the time. However, I still write blog posts.

If possible I try to make them about my own creative projects, because there are already amazing bloggers out there who are doing the other hard work for me (the teaching, the sharing of their own hard-earned wisdom about writing, the industry and so on). I can go to those people's blogs and learn from what they're teaching, instead of focusing on imparting my own dubious wisdom. Oh, don't get me wrong, I think I'm totally wise. ;) Just in other ways than this, perhaps. I'm definitely still learning and I know that is something all of us can say. But I've never, ever wanted to be a teacher, and I guess that comes through in my blogging as well.

I suppose I'm more of a sharer instead of a leader/teacher/shower (and by 'shower' I don't mean, ya know, hop in the shower, I mean show-er).

So I try to focus on doing my own thing, and talking about it here in my blog. Not that that's got me very far lately, since I haven't been a frantically busy blogger. But it's generally what I do think about when I come here and prepare to write a blog post.

What is your blog about? (and it can be about many things at once!)
Do you use your blog more to sort out your own creatively tangled head (as I do) or do you aim for it to be a tool that visitors can use?
Are you more of a sharer or a show-er?

  1. I totally go through this process with every post, Trisha! I know it isn't hip (according to the latest buzz, anyway) to prop your peers up constantly, but I seriously am left with nothing to say most of the time. You all are just that good.

So, like you, I just try go into my own little world and spit out whatever I'm feeling. I tried to do it like the other folks (the ones I seriously admire), and it was just very stilted, and simply not as good.

Your post left me wondering, though, am I a teacher, a sharer, etc.? I truly don't know. Guess I like to think I'm a "sayer" of whatever the heck I think I need to say. :)

    Love the hat, btw.

  2. I try to stay away from talking about writing. I've started looking for things I'm learning as I research for stories that I can share. And then, Funny Photo Friday has been a godsend, although I don't get as many page views for it as I do for the written posts. I've been blogging for almost two years and I'm really glad I've been posting only once to twice a week, or I would have gotten boring a really long time ago! Of course, maybe I'm boring now and just don't know it!

  3. What do I blog about? Mostly the first thing that pops into my head when I wake up in the morning. Which, as you can imagine, can either be brilliant or total crap depending on the type of dream I had the night before.

  4. I usually use my blog to sort out my own head. I'll post my opinions on subjects, but most of the time I'm more interested in knowing what other people think.

  5. I don't think I am any of those things frankly. Not on my blog. In my "real" life, I am all of those things- I teach through sharing, instructing and leading. But it is part of my job too. And perhaps for that reason I don't do any of that on my blog. I don't even use it for documenting my creative process because it makes me feel a bit slow... Even knowing how long I have had my piece in the process on my blog is somewhat depressing. I have a goal though and I intend to stick to it! (I'm not sharing because I don't want to jinx it.) Cheers!

  7. Hmm... I think I'm more of a sharer than a show-er. Though sometimes I show ;) And I think the recycling thing doesn't just apply to our blogs, but to our writing as well. I sometimes feel like it's impossible to come up with a storyline that hasn't been used before! I guess it's HOW we write it that can make our story stand out...

  8. I try to do both. I love to shout out for other authors and show readers a great new story, but I also like to hang with my author friends.

  9. I focus on my journey on my personal blog and then on my group blog try to figure out ways to help fellow writers!

  10. I'm definitely a sharer, and a asking-for-help-er, than a leader. I don't feel I know enough about anything to lead, but my blog seems to focus on the personal side of writing.

    Great post.

  11. I'm a sharer who makes occasional forays into showing. My concern lately is that I'm so worried about coming up with content that the stuff I do blog about isn't speaking to my "message" or my "platform" or my "brand." Ah well...I think we're ok, so long as we keep striving to do our best.

  13. I think I'm a sharer - of my own progress and ideas, but I also try to showcase others' awesome posts and link to some fun stuff. Feel kinda funny tooting my own horn if I do it all the time :-)

  15. I'm not so much a sharer. I'm trying to be, but it's not so easy in a public forum.

  16. I'm more of a show'er, definitely....

  17. I might as retitle my blog "Random" 'cause it's about lots of things. I like it when a blog reflects the owner's personality and yours does that so well. Don't change a thing. :)
