It's the first Wednesday of the month, and so it's time to post for the IWSG again. I didn't forget this time, see?!
Now that July is over, and I've finished all my vocal work for the album, it's time to get back to my other creative stuff. Namely, the editing I dumped prior to July in order to work on music. But you may notice that it's already August 6th. Since August began, I haven't yet picked the editing work back up.
Well, that's not quite true - I did literally pick up the chapter I was previously editing. It's in paper format, and has my scribbles all over it. It was on my coffee table for the entire month of July, gathering dust. I'm pretty sure the foster kittens trampled on it a bit, but thankfully nothing too damaging happened to it.
So anyway, I did pick it up off the coffee table, and I carried it over to my "workstation" (in case you missed it back in June, I was featured on Nutschell's blog for Wednesday Writer's Workspace). This is progress, in my opinion. But in the last few days I have to admit I've considered giving up on this particular edit job. So many times, it has just felt like such a struggle.
I'm not going to give up on it, though. I just can't bring myself to cave. ;) I won't be doing any work on this tonight, as I have to go out. I probably won't do any tomorrow night either, as I will be home from work late. But I definitely hope this week to get back into the swing of things.
Happy August, everyone! :)
Hey Trisha. No, don't give up. Put it away for awhile as you have, let the kittens trample it a bit, then pick it up again with a fresh outlook. I wish you all the best with your album and your novel/s.
ReplyDeleteYep - I am feeling refreshed and ready to look at it with more energy than I had in June. :)
DeleteDon't pressure yourself. Maybe pick it up in a couple weeks and just start reading it again. Let the story excite you again.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex - I'll see how I go when I try to get back into it later this week. :)
DeleteI'm not going to be much inspiration on the writing-I'm looking forward to the next album!
ReplyDeleteI will say that if you have to force it, maybe time away is good.
Larry
Thanks, Larry :)
DeleteI agree that having to force something 'creative' doesn't make sense at all. And trying is probably not going to work out well in the end anyway.
Glad you got the vocal work done for your album. That sounds so exciting! Sadly, I can't sing worth a lick. Like you said, at least you picked up the novel and took it to your work space. :)
ReplyDeleteGive yourself a breather, even if it's for a few days or a few weeks. Have a great day! Lily-Eva, IWSG Co-host
Tonight is my night! I will ... do something. I swear. ;) I'm supposed to clean my house, but I don't know if I'll do that. hehe
DeleteSometimes it's just a case of getting back into the swing of it again. Hope you find the time :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynda. I definitely need to get back into a routine I've completely lost. ;)
DeleteHi Trisha - it's winter .. but at least your Spring is springing soon and I'm sure that chapter will be ready when you're ready .. you've got lots on your plate ... just enjoy all things - your music, the little kitties and life in general .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteYes, our Spring feels as if it has already sprung, some days lately. We got up to 26 degrees in mid-winter!! insane!
DeleteI had to laugh at your humor in this post. Picking it up and moving it to your work station is a step. Now you just have to get your butt in the seat. ;) I don't think you're going to give up either. I hope you make more progress later this week. :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely think it was an impressive step, digging the chapter out from under other 'stuff' on my coffee table and putting it beside my laptop. hehe. Now I just have to get to the next step.
DeleteStay tough. I think the fact that the kittens trampled on the paper without peeing on it or otherwise destroying it is a sign from Heaven for you to keep on going. ;)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nissa
I agree - I did have a cat leave a poo smear on a previous chapter, but this didn't happen with this one. ;) So this one must be a better chapter!
DeleteI've felt like giving up, too. I always felt bad for wanting to give up simply because I'd invested so much time already. I owe it too myself.
ReplyDeleteYeah, once you get to a certain point, if you're a certain kind of person you just can't turn back.
DeleteI actually did some editing yesterday. Wooo!
I know you'll get back to it Trish!
ReplyDeleteYou are not one to give up that easily!
You're right there ;) I did do some work on it yesterday. This is yet another of those troublesome chapters where certain parts just aren't worded right, and it's hard to figure out how to word it.
DeleteIn my case, when I can't get to doing something, I go to a place I really like (such as a coffee shop or a park) and work from there. It helps.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this - I do love getting into a different environment to work. It can be very inspiring.
DeleteI live in a place with many beautiful natural "resources", so I should make better use of that. :)
you dont have to give up on it, but you can work on something else and come back to it later - i know you just did that, but you have to do what moves you! congrats on completing your vocals!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tara! It felt good to achieve something, no matter what it was. :)
DeleteI did some editing work yesterday ... very minimal, but something. That felt good as well.
Don't give up on it. Just set it aside for a while. I took a month off from writing seriously thinking I would never be inspired again. I figured it was over, then all of a sudden...the words came and I wrote a haiku today. So maybe it isn't over till its over. Keep plugging. Breaks away from writing can and really do help in the long run.
