IWSG #12 - Striking a balance

It's a new year, and so far I've done very little in terms of creative goals.

I seem to have no motivation to get things done that should be relatively easy to achieve. I really want to achieve them, but I'm being lazy. And I hate it!

I'm still completely stalled on my SQUEAKY project, which really annoys me. But someday I'm going to get that done! I also hope to finish last year's NaNo novel before I go back to work next week. In fact, I might get started on it sometime today. I only have one chapter to write, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Basically, it's frustrating having such small goals hanging over me that I just never get around to achieving.

I really do think that my heavy involvement with animal rescue is a big drain on my resources. But I wouldn't change my involvement there for anything. So I'm going to have to figure out how to strike a good balance between rescue 'work' and stuff I need to get done creatively.

And, of course, my full time money-paying job.

  1. I know how you feel about finding balance. Last year, I worked on it, but it swayed one way or the other. At least I was getting more sleep! Good luck with striking a good balance.

    1. Getting more sleep is always good! I don't know if that will happen for me much while I have these particular foster kitties ;)

You recorded an album. That is really damn amazing!

    1. Thanks, Alex - I always tend to shrug off the music accomplishments. ha. Should stop doing that.

  3. Good luck. I hope you find the balance between the two.
You'll work something out. I know you will.

  4. Sometimes we do drain ourselves with all that we have going on. It can feel like we're being lazy, but it's really our bodies trying to recuperate and rejuvenate. Starting small is always good. I think you should work on that chapter. Try to write a page or two each day and you'll have it done.

Good luck with finding a balance!

    1. You're right - starting small is the key. One chapter at a time, for whatever I'm working on. And stop worrying about the bigger picture, for now anyway!

    1. Nope, not possible to stay cool at the moment. But as always, I look forward to Autumn, and then Winter. :D

  6. It is hard to find balance. Some days, I keep a list and it all works out. Other days, my list gets tossed aside and life happens. We can only do so much. It seems like writing a sentence or two on the crazy days is a victory.

    1. Indeed, sometimes a sentence or two is all you can manage.

      Thanks for stopping by :)

  7. Your rescue work is so admirable! It must be so satisfying to help so many adorable kitties.
I am stalled right now as well and feel as if I have been forever. Hope to change that this month but so far it's not happening.

    1. It is satisfying, but I am definitely looking forward to the calmer winter months when far fewer kittens are born :)
