Revision report #2: SQUEAKY #1

What that means is this is the second report on my revision of Squeaky book 1. Just thought I'd clarify the blog post naming convention. ;)

So, uhhh, since I last wrote about this, I've definitely got a lot done. I have edited up to chapter 7, I think, or maybe it's chapter 8. At one point, a chunk of one chapter got put into another chapter, and then two little chapters became one, so I've lost track of the count a bit. I've also lost count because it's been many days now since I last edited anything.

Firstly, last week was full of nights when I had to go out. On Friday night, not only did I have to go out, but I also picked up two foster kittens. Eek! So not only do I have kittens who take up a lot of my time and attention, I also have a bit of foster kitten anxiety (leaving them alone all day, getting their diet right so they don't have diarrhoea anymore, etc.). They are getting used to a diet of boiled chicken breast, and tonight I will be steaming some pumpkin for them too.

I feel mean leaving these little guys (well, one's a girl) alone. But hey, being alone is better than being put to sleep, right? The people I'm fostering through are very reassuring. But I do feel a bit tense!

Soooo, all of the above means I have totally slacked off on my revision. But at least I got something done. I am currently stalled needing to input edits of a chapter in Scrivener. Then I need to print the chapter out again & give it one last go over. I already have the chapter after that ready to edit. But it's proving to be a struggle to get over these hurdles as they appear before me.

So, then. That's where I'm at. I hope you are all having a much more productive time of it. :)

  1. You'll be sad when you have to give up those kittens.
I don't divide my manuscripts into chapters until the very end, so I never know which one I'm working on.

  2. How sweet you are to foster kittens! And you are totally right, better left alone a little than put to sleep. I never knew cats would eat pumpkin. Hmm. I'll have to try that.

Best of luck with the edits!

  3. Good on you for fostering! I also can run on for forty pages before dividing into chapters.

  4. Kittens are cute, but they don't come with adequate warnings about the holy terror part. I'm so glad ours have outgrown that stage...

  5. Oh the joys of the writing process... it never ends! But you're doing it. Keep pushing! And holy adorable kittens...

  6. Hey, one day at a time. I'm into revisions too, and whew! Crazy stuff. It's coming along nicely though, and I think I may be down to the final two. Ooh! Progress does happen when you're not looking.

  7. Oh those kittens are so cute, so awesome of you to take them in. I hope they don't get into too much trouble while you're out of the house. (: Good to hear your edits are coming along, even if you've had to slow down a bit...I'm sure things will pick back up soon. I've gotten to the point where my edits were so completely crazy that I just said "screw it, i'm not editing anymore, I'm rewriting--everything." *cracks open another beer.* ;)

  8. I don't think I could foster anything. I would get so attached and want to keep them forever! It sounds like you are making progress with the book. You are a braver soul than I am. I have finally starting fast fiction and poetry but couldn't fathom writing anything that involved chapters. Good luck! ♥

  11. I love those pics!! If I weren't allergic to cats, I think I'd have a whole house full.
