NaNoWriMo 2014 ... I'm in! Are you?

It's that time of year again when lots of us are gearing up for November, and NaNoWriMo. This year I'm writing yet again about rock stars, only not the same lot I've written 5 novels about in the past. This year's novel is tentatively titled "LOST & FOUND", and here is my little rough draft blurb as it stands:

Ginna and Benedict grew up together, best friends and confidants. As they enter high school, Ben finds his calling - writing & playing music - and forms his first band. Ginna, an opinionated music connoisseur, is his strongest supporter, but he rehearses in secret with his band, refusing to let her in. At their debut gig, Ben's band isn't very good, but Ginna is convinced this is the start of something huge, at least for Ben.
She's right. Ben is destined for stardom. And as his career takes off, he leaves Ginna far behind. Soon he is caught up in living the high life, travelling the world & hanging out with other famous people. But when disaster strikes his personal life, he realises he's made a series of huge mistakes. And it may be too late for him to go back & fix what he's broken.

As usual, I have that excited feeling in the lead-up to November. But I'm still trying hard to get as much editing of SQUEAKY done before November 1st begins. I'm currently on one of those pesky chapters that needed more actual story added to it, rather than to just be edited.

But back on point... Are you participating in NaNo this November?

P.S. I have now listed all my previous NaNo novels in there as well.

  1. Never forget the little people, Ben.
Not participating this year, but I have in the past. Wrote my second book during NaNo 2010.

    1. Thanks. I love NaNo, even if it lets me indulge my bad habit of mostly writing new stuff & doing hardly any editing of old stuff. :)

  3. I am not but my daughter's thinking about it. They have a NaNoWriMo club at school.

    Best of luck to you!

    1. Good luck to your daughter if she does decide to have a crack! The best advice I can think of to pass on to her is - just have fun! Don't worry about whether you're writing something that's "pure genius". Just keep writing. :)

    2. She's 11 and loves to write. Not too worried about perfection at this point. I kind of doubt she'll do it - too many other things already going - but I love that she's even considered it.

    3. Yep, bodes well for her NaNo future! :D

  5. Hi Trish. You're in exactly the same place as I am. I'm trying soooo hard to get my Fijian story subbed before Nov 1st. I haven't had time to think about a new novel for Nov (I have enough incompletes to work on) but I think a spin off of my Fijian story might be just the thing. Thank you for prompting me--egad! How many days till Nov 1st!!!???

    1. I think my problem is I'm not trying hard enough to get my edits done by November. ;)

      Hope you manage your goal!!

  6. Oh and I forgot to say I love your synopsis for your new novel. Do you read Kylie Scott? She's got a rock star series. She gave me Lick when I attended a workshop of hers at the Brisbane Writers Festival. Yet to read it as it isn't really my bag, but she told us how to get yourself on the NYTimes best-selling list, so she's a go-getter all right (and Australian!)

    1. I haven't read any Kylie Scott, no. I've read a few rock star romance type books, but some of them seem to not have much 'substance'. I like a rock star romance, sure, but it has to be kind of gritty and the love has to be hard-won. :P

  7. Good luck! I love NaNo and I've done it for ten years now. Unfortunately I lose two weeks next month to family visits. I might try to take the challenge on for my revisions, but I am denied the full time I'd need to really make a go of it.

    1. I'm kind of glad that Aus doesn't do Thanksgiving, or else I might lose NaNo time each year as well.

I tried to do a WriMo earlier this year on revisions, but was terrible at it.

  8. Wahoo! I'm in too this year...although I swore I'd never do it again. Too many books to write with DEADLINES. Eek! I love your concept and can't wait to high give you when we reach the happy ending.

    1. That would be pretty difficult balancing actual writing deadlines not imposed by yourself, with your own NaNo deadlines as well. Good luck, Crystal - I hope you have a fun time in November! :D

  9. I wish! I'm at the point where I'm throwing partials at my agent (not literally) to see what sticks, so I don't get to write an entire novel until I figure out which one is the right one! Have fun.

    1. Aww, that must be a frustrating point to be at! ha. I hope your agent seizes on one of them soon so you can get cracking with the novel-writing!

  10. You novel sounds awesome, Trisha. I'm sure you are going to have a great time writing it this November.
I wish I had time to participate but fall is the busiest season at the day job. Maybe I can join up in the winter!
I finally linked my blog to my Google plus profile so it's now in my "about" section. For some reason, it kept freezing and then when I used my boss's computer, it worked.

    1. I'm glad you managed to link your blog up! I will check out your G+ and admire the new link. :D

Bummer that your dayjob is so busy at this time of year. I think in my job, I'm a similar sort of busy all year long, with major projects always on the go. But I still manage to have my nights and weekends free for writing - not having a partner or kids helps there. Even if my foster cats are currently consuming a lot of my energy. :(

  11. Looking at your list of previous NaNo novels... Wow, you've been doing NaNo since 2002? But still, gotta love that "new novel!" excitement.

I'm in again this year, too.

    Good luck!

    1. Yup, though I did skip one year, and failed 2 years. ;) I love NaNo, and it's pretty much a compulsion to participate each year now.

Glad to hear you're in again as well! I always enjoy checking out your blog during November. :D

    1. Yes, it has! We need to get back on track with our CP-ing. ;)

So far after day 2 I've got 8,700 words, and they seem to be flowing quite easily. We'll see how it all pans out.
